Alaska State Troopers are reporting that Shelby Gillins, age 21, of Soldotna, died in a motor vehicle collision Thursday morning at Mile 3.5 of the Kenai Spur Highway, near Pickle Hill.

According to troopers, Gillins was traveling northbound on the Kenai Spur when she lost control of her vehicle, a 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt, just before 8 a.m. Gillins’ vehicle went sideways and was struck by a southbound 2002 Ford Windstar minivan driven by Sharon Efta, age 56, of Kenai. Gillins was declared deceased on scene. Efta was transported to Central Peninsula Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

A trooper investigation is ongoing.
