Soldotna man accused of driving over woman's leg

A 59-year-old Soldotna man was arrested after allegedly driving over a woman’s leg and leaving the scene.

 

Frank Alto was arrested Thursday in Soldotna after authorities received reports that he allegedly ran over a woman’s leg in her driveway on Marshal Drive, Alaska State Troopers said. Alto is charged with third degree assault, a Class C felony, and leaving the scene of an injury motor vehicle accident, a misdemeanor.

Trooper spokeswoman Beth Ipsen said Alto did not know the woman and authorities do not suspect drugs or alcohol were contributing factors.

“He had given a ride to another woman that was right across the street,” Ipsen said. “So he was turning around and had backed into the driveway across from where he dropped the woman off. The woman who lived across the street was in her front yard smoking.”

When Alto pulled into her driveway, she went up to his car, slapped the outside of it and told him to leave.

“It scared him, his car was in reverse and he ended up knocking her over,” Ipsen said. “He knew she went down but his statement was that he didn’t know if he hit her or not. He left, but he didn’t realize that he ran over her ankle.”

Ipsen said the woman’s ankle was visibly swollen, but refused medical attention.
