Nikiski man dies after snowmachine accident

A 61-year-old Nikiski man died in snowmachine accident late Tuesday night.

Alaska State Troopers reported Charles Wadkins died after falling from his snowmachine after he struck a beaver dam about 15 miles northeast of the end of the Kenai Spur Highway. Troopers responded to the accident about 9:25 p.m.

Troopers believe alcohol and high speeds contributed to the accident and the man’s death. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, troopers reported.

Wadkins’ body was sent to the State Medical Examiner’s office for an autopsy.
