Man riding ATV hit by car, charged with DUI

A 27-year-old Soldotna man was thrown from his ATV on Friday after a colliding with a car on Kalifornsky Beach Road.

Alaska State Troopers said 22-year-old Sterling resident Austin Struthers was driving north near mile 21 of K-Beach Road when he became distracted and drove off the roadway at about 45 mph. Struthers struck Justin Millage, who was then thrown from his ATV, at about 10:42 p.m.

Struthers’ vehicle drove into a pond off the roadway and became disabled. Trooper investigation revealed Millage was operating his ATV under the influence of alcohol and was arrested for DUI. Troopers took him to Wildwood Pretrial Facility where he was held without bail because of a prior DUI.

Troopers reported that Struthers was released from the scene. It is unclear if the man faces further charges.
