Cooper Landing boat launch closed temporarily

The Cooper Landing boat launch will be closed until June 10 for maintenance.

The Kenai and Prince William Sound Division of Parks & Outdoor will use the time to repair an edge of the ramp where gravel has eroded, correct a drainage near the ramp’s gate and relocate signs that have become obstacles for boats when the Kenai River has been high, said Jack Blackwell, division superintendent.

“It’s not a huge project, and we’re trying to tackle it at the beginning of the season while the water’s low,” Blackwell said.

Also closed, he said, is the Izaak Walton campground. The Izaak Walton campground will open when snow levels recede, he said.

In mid-July half the Johnson Lake campground will close also, he said. Currently it is open.

During the boat launch’s maintenance, the north ramp across the Cooper Landing bridge will remain open, he said.

Pillars boat launch and Bings Landing are currently open, he said.

“Seems like we’re probably two or three weeks from where we were last year,” he said.
