Youth shoots himself in the leg at drinking party

A 16-year-old Soldotna resident shot himself in the leg Saturday at a large teen drinking party at a Tustumena Lake campground, Alaska State Troopers reported.

The teen was under the influence of alcohol when he was brought to Central Peninsula Hospital, treated for minor injuries and then released to his parents. Troopers contacted juvenile intake who requested the teen be arrested and charged with fourth degree misconduct involving a weapon and minor consuming alcohol.

He was transported to the Kenai Peninsula Youth Facility.

Troopers reported that after the teen shot himself with the .22 caliber semi-automatic pistol “a mass exit ensued and everyone fled the scene.”
