Outage affects large portion of Soldotna

Approximately 2,500 Homer Electric Association members in Soldotna were without power Tuesday afternoon.

According to Joe Gallagher, HEA spokesperson, the outage began at 2:37 p.m. when an electrical connection on a transformer, located on Redoubt Avenue, failed.

The initial outage affected a large area of Soldotna, including the Kenai Peninsula Borough building. The majority of power of the 2,500 impacted meters was restored by 3:30 p.m.

HEA crews were able to make repairs to the transformer and restored power to the remaining 208 meters in the Redoubt area at 7:40 p.m.

As a constant safety reminder, Gallagher urges everyone to remember to always stay away from downed power lines. The lines are extremely dangerous and getting to close to a line can cause serious injury or death.
