Fake bomb found at Homer High School

Posted: May 16, 2013 - 8:45pm

HOMER (AP) — Two teenagers have been arrested after allegedly leaving a fake bomb at Homer High School.

The Homer News reports 18-year-old Zachary Fraley and a 16-year-old boy were arrested Thursday after being identified by school officials as those behind the prank.

Police say an object looking like an explosive device was left in a stairwell. The school’s 370 students were temporarily evacuated Thursday morning.

Homer Police Chief Mark Robl says it was a metal coffee can with wires protruding from it. A battery was found inside the can, but police say it wasn’t a viable explosive.

Fraley was being held at the city jail, and the younger boy was released to his parents. Both face a charge of terroristic threatening.

Speaking of Homer Students ?

5/18/13 What ever Happened to the Homer Students that were involve in that RAPE last year ? Haven't heard a peep on that one ?

I'm curious to know IF the School Principal at Homer High has E O D Training & If he knows how to disarm a I E D ?
Then WHY would you take it upon yourself to move a possible I E D ? Not mentioned in this paper but was in the Homer paper. SPW

Assume Nothing

There was no IED, there never was a threat and much to do about nothing. The truth will come out and over inflated egos are the cause of this non-event being "blown up", coupled with "telephone game" and power tripping "I wanna be a hero". Shame on the police for wanting their moment of notoriety. If there were anything that possibly resembled a bomb we would be seeing front-page photos of this look-a-like destructive device. The truth is so limiting. Homer City Council do your job and keep your boys in blue in check.

Wait for the videos and the rest of the story. This will show how silly and yet sad that an over reaction to a very simple story (game) became an overblown exaggerated event. If the 16 year old was such a threat why did he walk away holding his parent's hand and not get the terrorist treatment? Small towns do not need small minds. What angers and sickens me is the real harm to the community and to the individuals that this lack of judgment by the authorities has caused. This will go down as a Barney Fife moment in time. Again, there was never a threat to anyone, anytime, anyhow, anywhere. To what gain was the purpose of this needless exploitation is the question. Does Homer want their own Bearcat, more funding? This was not fair.

Say What ?

O K I'll wait to view the video.
Speaking of "Lack of Judgement" These 2 Homer High Students proved themselves to be "Dumb & Dumber" to even think about a I E D, much less make a "Fake Bomb" & bring it into the School. That's just plain Stupid.
Where would these [filtered word] Students be IF they had done this at a Airport ?

I still have No News about the Homer High Rape Case from last Winter.

What happened to those Homer High Students ?

Awaiting the Video SPW in Soldotna

REALLY?

This lack of intelligence both from students involved and anyone not realizing that something regardless it being a "fake" bomb needs to continue being taken very serious.
To act like the police where to ignore it and say, "yep, it is fake, carry on" would be criminal. People are dying because of this type of mentality. Small town, small brains in the community it appears if you think the Homer police did not do their job to prosecute these high school students and set the tone out there, you will go to jail and have a criminal record.
