Joe Miller files paperwork for U.S. Senate run

JUNEAU (AP) — Joe Miller has filed a statement of candidacy for the 2014 U.S. Senate race in Alaska.

The Federal Election Commission requires individuals to register as candidates when campaign contributions or spending top $5,000.

Miller’s filing earlier this month was first reported by Politico.

Miller, in a statement late Tuesday, said he’s moving forward organizing, fundraising and coordinating with volunteers. Miller planned an official announcement of his plans at a later date.

The 2014 race is expected to be hotly contested, with Democratic Sen. Mark Begich seeking a second term.

Republican Lt. Gov. Mead Treadwell also is considering running.
