One has lip-synching and kite-flying, the other offers live folk and bluegrass; both are festivals in Funny River over the weekend.

The 2013 Funny River Festival at the Funny River Community Center is free — though the lip synching and kite flying require a fee — and tickets to the Funny River Bluegrass festival are $50 at the gate.

Jill Tyler, director of the community center festival said Butch Borgen, of Anchorage, local “Off the Cuff” would play live music while Funny River Bluegrass features 30 bands over the course of the weekend.

Eric Fischer, organizer of Funny River Bluegrass which will be held on the Fischer property off of Browns Lake Road, said camping spots were available for the weekend — paid for with an admission ticket to the festival — and while there would be food and craft vendors the event was B.Y.O.B. only.

At the community center, festival-goers can find a Saturday morning parade and halibut dinner in addition to Friday and Sunday events.
