Assault reported at Wildwood

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — Alaska State Troopers say a 44-year-old inmate at the Wildwood jail in Kenai reportedly was beaten by two other inmates.

Troopers say the inmate told corrections officers the men entered his cell while he slept Sunday evening, woke him up and began hitting and elbowing him on the head and back.

The inmate told troopers the men also stepped on one of his hands.

Troopers say the victim felt pain and went to the medical unit.

Troopers say the inmate identified the other two inmates, and the investigation continues.
It’s unclear how the two inmates got into the cell.

Department of Corrections spokeswoman Kaci Schroeder says the department will not comment until troopers complete their investigation.

The trooper handling the case could not immediately be reached for comment.
