Construction to close Refuge today

Construction Friday will cut off access all day to the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge headquarters and the Alaska Division of Forestry offices’ main entrance.

Homer Electric Association will trench the Refuge’s driveway where it meets Ski Hill Road to install utilities for the new visitor center, Refuge Park Ranger Candace Ward said.

Refuge headquarters will be closed, but people will still be able to access Forestry offices via their back entrances, Ward said.

Most Refuge and Forestry staff plan to work in the field during construction, Ward said.

Construction will end Saturday and headquarters will reopen.
