Homer man arraigned for sexual abuse and child porn

Posted: September 17, 2013 - 8:21pm  |  Updated: September 18, 2013 - 8:16am

A Homer man convicted in February of attempting to sexually abuse a girl was arraigned on Tuesday in Superior Court at Kenai Courthouse on new sexual abuse and child pornography charges alleging he abused the same girl two years prior to the incident he plead guilty to.

Corey Rosano, 36, was arraigned on 13 new charges: three counts of first-degree sexual abuse of a minor, three counts of sexual abuse of a minor in the second degree, one count of unlawful exploitation of a minor and five counts of possession of child pornography. All are felonies charges.

Public Defender Bill Taylor entered pleas of not guilty on Rosano’s behalf.

Rosano plead guilty to attempting to have sex with the girl in January 2012, when she was younger than 13. The court sentenced him to eight years in jail with six suspended. He was scheduled for release from Wildwood Pretrial Facility on Aug. 25. The Homer Courthouse issued a warrant for his arrest, and Rosano was arraigned in District Court at Kenai Courthouse on Aug. 15. The charges were dismissed Aug. 26.

“Specifically what happened was that (Public Defender Andy) Pevehouse indicated his client was going to wave time … and his client did not wave time, and the case got Rule 5 dismissed,” Assistant District Attorney Amy Fenske said at the arraignment. “It was certainly not the state’s intent to have Mr. Rosano released. These are very serious charges, but unfortunately it worked out that way briefly.”

The Kenai Courthouse prior to Tuesday’s arraignment served a new warrant.

According to the Homer police arrest warrant affidavit dated Aug. 13, in April the girl told her mother Rosano sexually abused her multiple times before January 2012. Rosano was a live in tenant at the victim’s family for about seven years. The victim was interviewed at the Homer Child Advocacy Center. During the interview, the girl said Rosano had abused her for the last three years he lived with the family, and she felt Rosano had power over her.

The girl said, during the CAC interview that Rosano had taken photographs of her and made her watch porn on his computer. “When the victim was asked how many pictures Rosano took of her,” the report reads, “(she) stated, ‘More times than I can count.’”

Homer police were issued a search warrant for Rosano’s computer, where 200 images of child porn were found. Pictures of the victim, as well as her younger sister and another young girl related to the sister, were found on his computer. Law enforcement also found pornographic images of other children.

The victim indicated Rosano also took videos of her, but one hard drive on the computer cannot be accessed because it is in encrypted, according to the report.

Bail is set at $50,000 cash performance and requires release to a court approved third party custodian. Rosano is ordered not to have contact with the victim and her family.

Rosano is currently being held at Wildwood Pretrial Facility.

His next court date is scheduled for Nov. 15.
