Murkowski: Defunding won't end health care law

Posted: September 25, 2013 - 8:25pm

JUNEAU — U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski said Wednesday that she’s been “deluged” with comments from constituents in recent days, overwhelmingly urging her to support House-led efforts to defund President Barack Obama’s signature health care law.

But the Republican told reporters Congress wouldn’t be getting rid of the law by defunding it for the upcoming fiscal year — as the House has proposed — and she said a government shutdown isn’t the way to go, either. Her comments came hours after Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, ended a marathon talking session in which he railed against the health care law.

Murkowski called it an “interesting display of one person’s passion,” but said if people watched his speech and thought he was getting rid of the health care law, they were mistaken.

What is playing out in Washington, she said, “is an effort to clearly raise the profile in terms of why the Affordable Care Act is not working, why we really haven’t worked to reform health care. But does it solve the problem that we’re dealing with? No, it really doesn’t.”

Murkowski said there are problems with the law that need to be addressed and she wants to find solutions. She supports efforts such as delaying the individual mandate to buy insurance.

The House last week passed legislation that would continue funding the federal government through mid-December. But italso includes a provision to defund the health care law.

U.S. Rep. Don Young, R-Alaska, supported that measure, though he said Wednesday he supports keeping the government open. He said a government shutdown would hurt a lot of his constituents and “really doesn’t gain a whole lot because eventually it will be reopened.”

The lone Democrat in Alaska’s congressional delegation, Sen. Mark Begich, said tying efforts to defund the health care law to the debt limit and funding of government “are reckless and extreme distractions that keep us from the business of the country which includes paying our bills.”

“The American people want Congress to lay out a responsible budget, focus on creating jobs, and quit putting the debt at risk and causing our economy that’s moving in the right direction to falter,” he said in a statement.

Murkowski as Liberal as Begich

Murkowski has been in DC too long - she runs on one set of issues, then drops them now that she's a Senator.

She must be removed from office. Most Americans oppose ObamaCare, and clearly most Alaskans do.

Obama-loving liberal Begich is up for election and must be removed; Murkowski should be the next to go.

Well if you are not a felon,

Well if you are not a felon, you will get to vote next time around and perhaps, just perhaps, the one's you want in office will get elected. You must be having a tough time since no one you wanted got elected last time around.

It does amaze me that she can

It does amaze me that she can even call her self a Republican, but what are we going to do? I guess we could have a recall like Colorado did against their two senators who shoved the gun laws down their throats, replacing them with others. If there was a trial to convict her of being a Republican she would be found innocent due to lack of evidence against her that's for sure.
Either way we look at it America is in major troubles here with this ClintonCare Social health plan that will cost every one dearly to the point of no one having good care. I pay $1100+ a month for absolutely nothing and that's going up I would bet and in fact it has already been raised this past year.
All things are proceeding along just as planned long ago so in spite of untrust worthy candidates who pretend to be one thing while being another I'll be just fine no matter what or who gets elected that I did not vote for because I know who is really in charge. At least I voted for the Americans.

Murkowski liberal?

Don't make me laugh.

If you say Murkowski is liberal it only demonstrates that you have no idea what it would mean for someone to be a liberal.

As to that notion that most Americans oppose Obamacare, those numbers disappear when Americans are asked if they support the Affordable Care Act.

Those Americans who know what the law entails support the law. Those expressing disapproval are those most uninformed about the law.

If you ask Americans if they support what the law is, Americans support the Affordable Care Act.

In any case, it's not a question that Murkowski is going to have any impact on either way.

The laws enacted by the passage of the Affordable Care Act will go into effect regardless of mindless Teapublican grandstanding.

Murkowski is only speaking of reality, .....you know reality, that thing teapublicans (and a few others), think they can ignore.

And watchman,

...if you, (as you claim), pay eleven hundred dollars a month for nothing, that's a very sad reflection on you that has nothing at all to do with the Affordable Care Act.

You claim you voted for Americans?

Care to name a non-citizen you passed over?

It's called charging Peter to

It's called charging Peter to Pay for Paul's insurance and that's expensive and why Unions, key word Unions, are protesting ClintonCare nonstop as I do and want it stopped or wanting to be exempt from it's cost increases like the government employees are exempted from this high priced nothing.
If some one would have just read this Unaffordable ClintonCare Act then we might not be on the verge of massive unemployeement due to business's inability to afford insurance increases for their full time employees forcing them into part time work with no insurance.
Either you pay what they say or do without, simple concept which has nothing to do with my intellect or lack of, got it?

Wrong again. Your imagination has run away with you again.

It's truly breathtaking to see how far from reality you allow yourself to be taken.

All too many of your incessant claims have been long debunked yet you persist despite all evidence to the contrary.

Intellect, you say?

At the risk of being 'Wrong

At the risk of being 'Wrong Again' Please bare with me here as I continue to divert from reality of which I deal with daily along with many others.
I remember when unions were a good thing and aided to help people against unscrupulous employers who took advantage of them. Thus the reason I joined the union for better wages and benefits and have been a union member for over 42 years.
The problem is that this ideal has been highjacked by those that are of no account and use the union to receive pay & benefits for doing absolutely nothing with no fear of ever loosing these benefits. People sitting around doing absolutely nothing, too hardly anything while I and a few worked hard for the employers to earn our wages and benefits.
So what do we have today with Obama's Dream? We have an organized union of voters who have elected him on the promise of free stuff for doing nothing. Problem is this free stuff is not free, it costs others huge amounts to carry these freeloaders and keep the ball of commerce rolling. In Obama's union every one is going to be equal and every one will all have the same exact everything even if you can't afford it or work for it. Now that's a Utopia of organized people dependent on government for all things at no cost to you for joining.
I hope I don't offend any here as I point out what Revelation 13:11-18 talks about for the end of days, (period of time, dispensation of time we are now in) during what is known as the 7 year Tribulation when this very Forced into joining the Union of organized global people or they can not work or trade or do anything unless they belong to the global union and have it's ID mark. The good of Unions has now been converted into a global nightmare which will destroy free society as we know it. I'm a Union member and glad I was, but as for this New global union, I am not joining, nor am I going to say what a wonderful thing it is by every one getting supposed free stuff.
Murkowski is right, it's not going to be stopped and that's a promise, but that does not mean I, we who have a lick of common sense have to like it either as we see it's spread and destruction of Free commerce and prosperity for those that work to an all encompassing Union of One free loaders.
This union is having troubles though as people are even so lazy that they are not even signing up for the free stuff. Thus we see enroll now or enroll Alaska, with the click to see locations nearest you, it's an easy site every where trying to get members as is the case here on the Clarion pages showing a couple coffee drinkers as examples of what you too can be.
Obama is even out now beating the bushes to get his The Youth will follow college supporters to sign up because their desired numbers are so low, which could be the only reason it would fail due to lack of Union members.
This picture shows them as Free to do nothing other than enjoy the Free benefits that others pay for you while you stand around and drink coffee, I guess.
What was once Good, has now become Evil and we will all suffer from it's spread.

LACK OF RESPECT FOR CONSTITUENCY

Senator Begich first of all the only jobs the federal government can create is more federal workers that increase the size of government and increase our taxes i.e. the IRS. Obama’s stimulus was a complete failure filled with crony capitalism. Obamacare is forcing hundreds of employers to stop providing health insurance for their employees. The number of full time jobs continues to decrease while the number of part time jobs climbs. Those who have completely dropped out of the work force are a direct result of the never-ending entitlements and welfare your party continues to grow. Obama’s over regulating, and increasing taxes has created an environment of uncertainty that does the opposite of creating jobs.

Senator Begich you obviously don’t care about the quality of healthcare that your constituency is forced to take or their individual right to keep the health care plan that they have and their doctor otherwise you never would have voted for Obamacare in the first place. How can you support taking a $ Half of Trillion Dollars from Medicare and lower the reimbursement to doctors and hospitals for Medicare patients? You will be defeated in 2014 as more voters are outraged by the high costs and poor health care coverage of Obamacare. You have put your party before what is best for the country. This albatross will hang around your neck in the next election where you will be defeated.

Senator Murkowski by voting yes on cloture you eliminated debate on a law that the majority of voters are opposed to. Since you have a record of siding with Democrats on more than one important issue that is why so many true Republicans, Conservatives, and Independents think you are a RINO. You have never been opposed to large government and have a record of wanting to spend more than the government takes in. Your attitude that government knows best while ignoring your constituency will sooner or later result in you being defeated by a candidate that listens to the voters and understands that the ACA is both a job killer and fiscally unsustainable. You have never had a strong voice in Congress that stands up for the principles of the Republican Party.

While Obamacare which is second-rate health care is forced down our throats, Congress, their aids, White House employees, and the US Supreme Court Judges are exempt and we the taxpayers pay 72% of their gold plated health insurance. I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if pretty soon a deal isn’t cut with the unions.

The list of Senators that voted FOR cloture and thus opening the floor to the Demorats to fund the ACA IS....

Those who wend their way through life petrified and afraid,

... are the same people who are the most susceptible to distortions and illusions.

If they're presented with an enemy, they don't have to take responsibility for their own shortcomings or lack of ambition, they can blame 'the enemy'.

Shoot, they can 'blame' the enemy instead of confronting the reality that they're not ever likely to be celebrities or become one of the uber wealthy. Nope, they can look down on 'the enemy' and attempt to place blame on someone who has no impact on their own prospects.

For several generations now, the masses have been told by the uber wealthy that the poor were their enemy.

Well, the indoctrination has been fairly successful. Today, the wealthy are robbing nearly everyone blind and a fairly high percentage of delusional dolts can't restrain themselves from trying to take some kind of revenge on the working poor while at the same time doing all they can to ensure the wealthiest among us continue to get a free ride.

Wake the heck up, ...you're not going to be swept along on some tide setting you on a course of becoming wealthy. You're just not. So why allow yourselves to be played?

Why allow yourselves to demonize people who aren't your enemy? These people are your neighbors for crying out loud.

Refuse to be manipulated, quit running scared. Choose reality.

Consider this an intervention and start believing you can be cured of what ails you.

Stop allowing yourself to be so easily deluded.

I absolutely agree with you

I absolutely agree with you WHOLE HEARTEDLY here JPZ.
Dang You must have watched some of the past news clips of President Obama slamming Bush non-stop and as of late hammering the GOP and Fox news. It's every o ne else's fault according to him and they are his enemies as well as all the Americans who only want free stuff. Yep! That's exactly what this One wants an America divided for conquering.
Obama is wanting to spread hate among neighbors. I never though I would see you confess the truth and I am so very proud of you for having the courage to do so, Thank You, Thank You. Now if only others would finally admit what's really happening with this Divide and Conquer giver of free stuff and destroyer of all incentive or desire to succeed while at the same time causing those that do work to say what's the use and give up and join the freeloaders.
You don't know how proud I am of you for this acknowledgement JPZ.
Finally you realize that we will always have the poor and that's life and dragging all the world down to a Sharing Equally Plan will only hurt the poor more than they hurt now.
Some one very smart once said if you don't work, you don't eat. It was not to say don't help the needy, just don't help the worthless lazy demanding free stuff greedy.

My warnings are not out of

My warnings are not out of fear & trembling, nor am I petrified of what's coming. I have an eternal health care plan that can never be taken away and it cost me nothing.
I give warnings that are reality of a very well organized plan for a social global union of one that's not designed for good for anyone. You how ever try to distort truth by claims that I and people like me lack reality and that we are delusional, I, we are not and the truth will be revealed of what's really at play here as time rolls on. Funny how the truth always wins out eventually in spite of people accepting it as such, it still always comes forth as a light shining in darkness.
Can it be stopped?
NO, IT CAN NOT?
Just as Murkowski said it can't be stopped no matter what, this was said was not out of fear, but, out of understanding what's really going on and the massive power force behind this evil intent to control all humans. Does this nullify her of her not fighting it, no it does not. My fight is not to convince all, as that will never happen. It is how ever in Hope that maybe even one will listen and prepare for what's coming and escape it's wrath and intended destruction.
Know what I mean? Allow me to give answer for you JPZ, Yes you do.

Bo says he will not allow this to fall by the way side as long as he is President. Maybe America can help him OUT here.
This will more than likely get postponed or kicked down the road a year as there is more problems with this Train wreck than anyone can figure out how to go forward with it.
YEAH! We'll all see as time ALWAYS REVEALS the Truth.

No, there aren't a lot of problems with the Affordable Care Act.

It passed the House and the Senate, the Supreme Court upheld the law, the nation voted to re-elect the president and rejected Mitt Romney who ran on doing away with the Affordable Care Act.

It's the law. It's a done deal.

You just can't comprehend simple reality.

The Senate sent a clean spending bill back to the House.

The nutjobs have been dismissed. As they should be.

Yepper it's the law is a

Yepper it's the law is a correct statement.
It being a good thing is yet another thing.
This good for all law has been amended many times by Obama and the Democrats.
Amended for themselves and special interest groups who support Obama.
Well if this good law is good enough for us poor common Americans, then it sure as blank should be a good law for ALL of America especially Government that passed it.
Who passed it? The Democrats ALONE PASSED IT, actually shoved it down America's throat, remember? Now they don't want any part of it other than for non-special interest folks.
It's the law of the land, so EVERYONE should have to obey it.
Don't back down on this issue is my advice for the house Republicans as well as the Senate Republicans and especially don't increase the debt limit, stop the madness now by pushing the envelope all the way to Oct. 17th when the debt ceiling is reached and beyond that if needed to stop this madness. If we are going down lets do it fighting.
Let the chips fall where they may, but stop this out of control spending and ushering us all into the pit of despair and absolute economic ruin and desolation from this Abomination.
It's the law alright, so let it be for everyone.

WHY?

Why are the Republicans complaining about the ACA. The Republicans have tried to pass such a law for decades, and could not get it passed.I guess. The Republicans are upset that the bill got passed, and signed into law by a Democrat. The Democrats did something the Republicans could not achieve .You should be grateful that the ACA got passed into law.

ACA stands for Affordable

ACA stands for Affordable Care Act, another name for BO Care. Either way you say it it's not going to be affordable to anyone, nor is it a good thing for America and that's why the GOP is fighting this wonderful law that was shoved down out throats without anyone even reading it or knowing what is in it.
The DEM'S must know it stinks as they have made quit a few changes to this Law, changes which have exempted them and special interest groups who have squealed the loudest about having to obey this wonderful Law.
Just because the majority of Americans voted for free stuff at the expense of others does not make it true, or a good Law.
This shut down is a well needed thing to stop the madness of this False Hope. The debt ceiling is fast approaching and that's when the real battle is going to erupt to stop our national debt that is now approaching $17 TRILLION. $17 TRILLION is $8 trillion in 5 years under BO and he along with his dependents say it's Bush's fault?
I laugh at this continued gross hypocrisy of it's the GOP'S fault. I also laugh as well at the stupidity of all that stumble along believing this junk as Truth while promoting this lie, when it is an absolute undeniable lie intended to deceive the masses into placing blame for this Abominable law about it's supposed goodness when that is not the case what so ever.
The debt ceiling is where the real battle will come as BO wants to continue spending us into economic ruin.
BO screamed about how shameful it was for the national debt under Bush to be at $9 Trillion after 8 years was destroying OUR children's future. So what does that future look like now for OUR children with BO's almost $17 Trillion now in 4+ years with 3 years left for his spending us into oblivion all designed at leading to absolute slavery for the masses of Americans, as well as the effect on all the worlds economies who depend on America?
It might not stop this law, but it sure is slowing down the madness of spending now isn't it?

Free Cell Phone

I hear that they are giving away free cell phones in Tennessee with minutes when you sign up for Obamacare. Maybe we could get something like that going here.

I mean after all Senator Begich didn't get any carve outs for Alaska when he voted for it like Nebraska and Lousiana got. He sold out the folks of Alaska way too cheap. Who knows maybe he received a personal reward like a meeting with "the annointed one" or a autographed photo of Harry Reid.

Not free if you pay

There is no FREE phone. Cost is added in to the payments for insurance.

As part of its Community Health Connection Program, CHA is offering qualified individuals an LG Lucid 2 4G smart phone (or equivalent model), a phone plan and tech support, included as a cost of their health plan benefits. The phone plan includes unlimited talk, unlimited texting and 1.2GB of data.

What happened to Norsemans

What happened to Norsemans post of hate towards me which I gave an answer too I came back to post a complaint by using the flag for review and it's gone.
Hopefully the Clarion which I am in contact with so as not to be blocked again for going off topic saw his attacks and lies against me and removed it.
If so, Thank You Clarion for doing this as I am really trying to stay on topic as well as share my beliefs which are no different than others who express their opinions either for or against all things in accord to their own beliefs.
Thank You Clarion web master for making sure we all obey the Law for posts, as we share or opinions. Sorry for going off topic here but I do appreciate this action.
Non of us are idiots, or terrorists or anarchist or [filtered word]s or wingnuts or on and on the list goes of NASTY MEAN HATEFUL NAMES called simply because we disagree on different issues or place our Faith in different hopes and changes promised.
But, there are many who would that we all converge into a slobbering spitting hateful name calling mob bent on forced acceptance against others who don't agree . A placing of scorn against others because we are not ALL ALIKE, OR ONE UNION. If we disagree and use the other LAWS of OUR Land to fight for our rights of FREEDOM to chose for our selves, then we are wrong and by god must be stopped and silenced at all costs.
It's hard to just sit and take it and not attack like I use to do when being attacked, but there needs to be a web master who does stop this abuse and did so to me once and it appears it was done here as well against others, so Thanks.
I appreciate this site and opinions of others, not always agree, but realize that we all must stand alone for the things we do or don't do as we all struggle in this life of continual hardships coming from all directions all the time.
When people start to try and sign up for this junk, they will realize exactly what it's all about hopefully realizing it's not designed as good for anyone other than the money handlers and evil powers that be.
I also see my reply was removed and I'm Sorry Clarion that I must have said more against Norseman than needed, I did not really mean to do so. I guess I just need to not reply to some.

I got DEFUNDED BY MY CREDIT

I got DEFUNDED BY MY CREDIT PROVIDER.
Yepper! I wanted to run my credit limit over what I was approved for and they just laughed at me when I gave them my BOMATH figures of always paying my interest on time for upteen years and never defaulting. I have never not paid it, my interest in spite of my debt has now increased beyond any hope of me ever paying it off, THEY STILL REFUSED TO UP MY LIMIT.
I know, I'll scare them into increasing my limits by threat of default. Yeah! That's the ticket, I'll scare them into getting my way.
I MAY HAVE TO DEFAULT IF THEY DON'T CHANGE THEIR MINDS AND GIVE ME MY WAY, THAT WILL SHOW THEM.
THEY TRIED SEVERAL TIMES TO TALK, BUT, I WILL NOT TALK UNTIL THEY GIVE ME WHAT I WANT, THEN WE CAN SIT DOWN AND I'LL GLADLY TALK ABOUT ANYTHING THEY WANT.
Of course then it will be meaningless to talk, as I will have already got what I wanted with no need to talk.
Defunding does work in some cases and helps curb out of control spending leading to massive debt that will never be paid by thousands of generations of kids in the future.

Of course this is in no way how I conduct my personal business or credit
because it would not be tolerated or allowed as a safe reasonable means of doing business by anyone any where. But, it sure is OUR GOVERNMENTS AND ESPECIALLY BO'S WAY, OR THE HIGHWAY TO DEBT AND RUIN.
Defund it GOP, DON'T GIVE IN.
