1 dead in Nikolaevsk house fire

One person was found dead in a Nikolaevsk home following a fire early Thursday morning.

The Soldotna Public Safety Communications Center received multiple reports of the ranch-style house fire at 3:25 a.m., according to an Alaska State Troopers dispatch.

“By the time responders got there, the house was fully engulfed and the roof had collapsed,” troopers spokesperson Megan Peters wrote in an email.

Volunteers from Kachemak Emergency Services, Anchor Point Volunteer Fire Department and Anchor Point-based troopers responded to the blaze at about 4 a.m. The fire was controlled at about 5 a.m. Firefighters found the body after the fire was extinguished.

The remains have been sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Anchorage.

Peters said the agency has a “tentative” identification of the individual found in the house and have notified the person’s family, but cannot release a name.

A State Fire Marshal from Anchorage is investigating the cause of the fire, according to the dispatch.

Whether the fire was accidental or intentional is unknown as of 3 p.m. Thursday, Peters said.

Kachemak Emergency Services and Anchor Point Volunteer Fire Department could not provide additional information.
