Shots outside Capitol, police say 1 injury

WASHINGTON (AP) — A police officer was reported injured after gunshots at the U.S. Capitol, police said Thursday. They locked down the entire complex, at least temporarily derailing debate over how to end a government shutdown.

The shooting unfolded after police chased a black car up Constitution Avenue toward the Capitol, said tourist Edmund Ofori-Attah, who walked toward the scene as the car stopped.

"Then I heard the gunfire" and hit the ground, he said.

Sen. Bob Casey, D-Pa., told reporters he was walking from the Capitol to the Senate Russell Office Building across the street when he noticed several police officers driving fast up Constitution Avenue on motorcycles.

"Within seconds of that," Casey said, "we heard three, four, five pops," which he assumed were gunshots. He said police ordered Casey and nearby tourists to crouch behind a car for protection.

In about two minutes, he said, the officers moved everyone into the Capitol.

FBI agents rushed to the scene and Senate Sergeant at Arms Terrance Gainer said: "There are reports of injuries."

After nearly an hour, police ended the lockdown.

The shooting comes two weeks after a mentally disturbed employee terrorized the Navy Yard with a shotgun, leaving 13 people dead including the gunman.

As a warning was sounded, the House abruptly went into recess and lawmakers left the chamber floor. The Senate also suspended business.

Before the disruption, lawmakers had been trying to find common ground to end a government shutdown. The House had just finished approving legislation aimed at partly lifting the government shutdown by paying National Guard and Reserve members.

People standing outside the Supreme Court across the street from Congress were hurried into the court building by authorities.

The White House also was briefly locked down after the incident at Capitol Hill and the stretch of Pennsylvania Avenue in front of the compound was closed to pedestrians. Secret Service said the procedures were precautionary.

Not surprised at this, after

Not surprised at this, after all Obama and the DEMs warned us it was going to happen due to the Govt. shutdown.
Walah, it's a miracle and what a perfect time for it as well.
Never allow a crisis to go to waste, nor never help that crisis to escalate more for your desired goals is what Obama's cabinet members said. It's part of the Top Down, Bottom Up total confusion to garner support from the people for more absolute control.
I wondering if this woman is the Black Widow who also did the Kenya mall attack. She was also probably controlled by ELF's like the Navy shipyard person was with his AR15 military style weapon they want to ban, which their own security films later showed as a pump shotgun, Joe Biden told us all to go out and by for protection?
This looks like the last totally controlled attack against the Treasury where the FBI and CIA set up a terrorist with fake bomb parts that he wanted to use against America. They also took many hours pretending to be securing and protecting America from this planned devised attack that they were in control of the entire time with no possible means of accomplishing the attackers evil intent, just as the news is saying there was no way the car would reach the Treasury.
They must have pulled guards off from protecting the OPEN AIR WWII MONUMENT keeping out OUR War Hero's in order to respond here.
Sorry folks if I seem a little suspect from anything that comes out of News controlled by this government.
At least we can blog and make calls now without the NSA tracking our every word like Jay Leno said the other night, not only Jay but many other Obama supporters now ALL laughing at him, as well as ALL of America due to our demise from world dominance under this One into absolute comedy.
What a mess and I wonder out loud who this will be blamed on? I'd bet the GOP will be blamed in spite of all the different bills they have sent to the Senate since the shut down trying to get Government going again, all of which the DEM's have rejected saying we will not talk on anything other than a complete passage of what we want, what say you?

It's been over an hour almost

It's been over an hour almost two hours now and security is still running around by the hundreds pretending that this woman is still at large.
Absolute madness in this pretense of protecting. Go home, move on and stop others from crimes already and don't apply for OT for standing around looking busy doing nothing either.
Good thing I guess this happened so the news stations have something to report on endlessly without reporting on anything new.
