Nikolaevsk fire victim identified

The body found following a Thursday morning Nikolaevsk house fire has been positively identified as 46-year-old Andres “Andy” Afonasiev.

Soldotna Public Safety Communications Center received multiple reports of the house fire at 3:25 a.m., according Alaska State Troopers.

By the time responders from Kachemak Emergency Services and Anchor Point Fire and Emergency Medical Services arrived at about 4 a.m., the house was fully engulfed in flames, troopers spokesperson Megan Peters said in an email.

The body was sent to the state medical examiner’s office for autopsy and identification.

Next of kin has been notified, according to troopers.

A state fire marshal is investigating the cause of the blaze.
