Curtain Call to reopen Saturday

They’re still hanging bags, designing displays and figuring out where to put all the posters, but the Curtain Call consignment boutique is scheduled to reopen Saturday.

It took several weeks, more than 700 items sent to be dry cleaned and a lot of volunteer hours to get the store ready in its new location after an SUV drove through the old one.

The new store, located in the bottom floor of the Seaman Building, 601 Frontage Road, in Kenai, has the former store’s signature pink, green and brown walls as well as a few new decor items.

Proceeds from the consignment sales in the store benefit the Kenai Performers, a local theatre group.

For now, it will remain open two days a week, Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., as volunteer time is limited, however Mary Krull, board member for the Kenai Performers, said they anticipate a lot more foot traffic in their new location and could be forced to change their hours.

While the new space is about the same square footage as the old, Krull said, staff lost most of their storage space and the group is asking that consignors limit the number of items they bring in until another storage solution can be determined.

Most of the clothing available Saturday will be the same clothing the store was carrying when it closed, relatively few items were lost when the former building was damaged.

“Everything that has a dry cleaning tag on it we’re calling a survivor,” Krull said with a laugh.

A mix of summer clothes and winter clothes will be on hand as Krull said they will be honoring all 90-day contracts with consignors who brought items in before the August accident.
