T-200 called off

Too little snow, too much water on trail to hold race

The 2014 Tustumena 200 Sled Dog Race has been canceled, race organizers announced Friday morning.

The 200 mile race through the Caribou Hills had been scheduled for Feb. 1-2. However, with recent warm weather and rain, organizers are reporting too little snow and too much water on the trail for a quality race. In an email, race director Tami Murray said organizers had looked at the 10-day forecast and considered every option before deciding to call off the race.

“We’d like to thank all of our sponsors and volunteers for their continued support and wish the mushers luck in training over the next few weeks,” Murray wrote.
