Sterling Highway in Cooper Landing reopened

Update: The Sterling Highway at Mile 46 in Cooper Landing reopened at 2:34 p.m., according to Alaska State Troopers. 

The Sterling Highway was closed Friday morning at Mile 46 in Cooper Landing due to an accident involving a semi-truck and a car. Ipsen said there were minor injuries reported from the crash. No one was transported for medical attention. 

According to information posted on the Alaska 511 website, a two-vehicle collision had closed the highway west of Quartz Creek Road. 

The cause of the accident is yet to be determined.

First, I hope everyone involved is OK. Heal fast. Second, bring on that Cooper Landing Bypass. Let's get the funding. Let the politicians drive down from Anchorage to the Peninsula during the middle of the July sockeye run so they can see for themselves how inadequate the road is. Better yet, let them drive back to Anchorage on a Sunday afternoon. The scenery is world class, but the road gets bottlenecked.
Also, increased industry activity brings on an increase in truck traffic, as it should.
