Refuge closes to snowmachine use

With near-spring like conditions rapidly reducing snow cover on the Kenai Peninsula, the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge will close to snowmachine use.

In a press release, Deputy Refuge Manager Steve Miller said that the closure will take place at 11:59 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 2. Given the time of the year this closure has taken place, Miller said, there is the possibility that the Refuge could re-open to snowmachining should conditions significantly improve.
