Refuge closes to snowmachine use

With near-spring like conditions rapidly reducing snow cover on the Kenai Peninsula, the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge will close to snowmachine use.

In a press release, Deputy Refuge Manager Steve Miller said that the closure will take place at 11:59 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 2. Given the time of the year this closure has taken place, Miller said, there is the possibility that the Refuge could re-open to snowmachining should conditions significantly improve.

For more information about this snowmachine closure, or other Refuge regulations, contact the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge office during regular business hours at 907-262-7021.
