Kenai boy dies after pool accident

Posted: February 15, 2014 - 8:58pm

A 6-year-old Kenai boy has died after an accident in a pool at an Anchorage hotel.

Floyd Murphy, the son of Tim and Raelynne Murphy of Kenai, had been in critical condition at Providence Children’s Hospital in Anchorage since Feb. 7, when he was pulled out of a hotel pool by his older brother, his aunt, Amanda Murphy, told the Clarion last week. On Monday, after doctors told the family that a CT scan showed no brain activity, a decision was made to take Floyd off life support, she said. The family was waiting until the medications he had been given had left his system, so that his healthy organs could be donated.

On Friday, Providence Hospital released a statement on behalf of the Murphy Family: “Last night Floyd left us to be with God. We would like to thank the community for the overwhelming show of support for Floyd and our family. Your love, compassion and prayers have given us strength during this difficult time.”

According to the statement, a celebration of life service will be held for Floyd at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Soldotna Church of the Nazarene. Guests are encouraged to wear blue and yellow.
