Widespread power outages reported on the Kenai Peninsula

Several thousand people are without power as of noon Saturday as the Homer Electric Association responds to reports of a number of power outage.

Approximately 4,000 HEA members are without power including a large section of the City of Soldotna where several streetlights along the Sterling Highway were non-functional.

Forest Drive and St. Theresa between Soldotna and Sterling reported an outage as did Skyline Drive and Strawberry Road according to an HEA media release.

In Kenai, Aliak and Magic Ave reported outages. In the Nikiski area Holt Lamplight and the Swanson River Oil Field also have outages, according to the release.

Halibut Cove is in the outage area as is the Tote Road area near Kasilof, according to the release.

In addition, crews are working on several, smaller and scattered outages across the peninsula — crews are working to restore power but, due to the frequency of the outages and strong winds the outages are likely to be extended, according to the release.

Anyone without power can call the outage hotline at 1-888-8OUTAGE.
