Trooper vehicle totaled near Soldotna

An Alaska State Trooper vehicle was involved in a wreck with another vehicle Monday on the Sterling Highway.

The trooper involved, Thad Hamilton, was taken to the hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries as was the driver of the other vehicle, Edmond Mallete Jr, according to a trooper dispatch on the accident.

Malette was driving his Oldsmobile SUV southbound on the Sterling Highway when he missed his turn and, as he was turning on the roadway, collided with Hamilton’s Crown Victoria patrol car, according to the dispatch. Both vehicles went into the roadside ditch, near mile 99 of the highway rolled onto their sides and were totalled, according to the dispatch.

Trooper spokeswoman Megan Peters said the accident happened just before 5:40 p.m.
