A small plane crashed in Nikiski Thursday afternoon, leaving the single occupant uninjured.
Nikiski Fire Department Captain J.T. Harris said a team firefighters was called out to the crash site of a single-engine plane near Holt-Lamplight Road at 3:26 p.m.
Harris said eight personnel, two Nikiski Fire Department ambulances, an engine and two staff vehicles responded to the pilot, the sole occupant of the plane, who he said declined medical attention. The incident was what Harris called a “good intent” call.
“Actually, we turned around some equipment as soon as we (got to) the scene,” he said.
One Nikiski Fire Department member stayed on the scene until Alaska State Troopers arrived, Harris said.
“As far as I know, the pilot had some engine problems shortly after takeoff and wasn’t able to get back to the runway,” Harris said.
Attempts to contact the Alaska State Troopers and the National Transportation Safety Board were not successful by the press deadline.
