The deadline to apply for seven open seats on several Soldotna boards and commissions is rapidly approaching.

While a handful of applications have trickled in, City Clerk Shellie Saner said open seats remain on the Airport and Planning & Zoning commissions and the Library Advisory and Employee Relations boards.

Currently vacant seats include seat C on the Airport Commission. Applicants for this seat must live within city limits but don’t have to be airport users. Planning & Zoning Commission seat B is also open; both terms will expire on Dec. 31, 2017. Applicants for the open Planning & Zoning Commission seat do not have to live within city limits but must file a financial disclosure statement.

Several seats are set to become vacant in December, including:

— Seat D on the Airport Commission, It is an at-large seat so applicants do not have to live within city limits.

— One seat on the Employee Relations Board. Any applicants must live within city limits and cannot be city employees or a member of any labor union representing city employees.

— Seats B and E on the Library Advisory Board. One seat requires the applicant to live within the city while the other does not provided that the applicant own a business within city limits.

— Seats A and C on the Parks & Recreation Advisory Board. One seat requires an applicant to live within city limits while the other does not.

— Seats C and D on the Planning & Zoning Commission. One seat requires that the applicant reside within city limits and the other allows an applicant to live outside of city limits as long as he or she owns property within city limits; both positions require a financial disclosure statement.

The deadline to apply for the open positions is Monday, Nov. 30, at 4:30 p.m. Applications are available at www.soldotna.org or can be picked up at Soldotna City Hall, 177 N. Birch. To apply, submit an application and a letter of interest to the city clerk at the aforementioned address. Soldotna Board and Commission members are appointed by the mayor and confirmed by the city council — the seats should be filled during the Dec. 9 city council meeting.

Saner said if the city does not receive enough applications to fill the vacant seats, it will extend the deadline to apply.

“We’ve never had more applicants than positions, so it would be great to get more applicants in,” Saner said.
