Troopers arrest woman after high-speed chase in stolen truck

A high-speed chase on near Soldotna on Friday ended in Alaska State Troopers arresting a woman for stealing a truck.

Amber Heath, 28, of Kenai, was arrested after leading law enforcement officers on a long chase from Kasilof to Mackey Lake Road near Soldotna. The chase started after troopers got a report Friday morning of a “suspicious vehicle” trespassing on private property in Kasilof, according to an online trooper dispatch.

A trooper was dispatched, and before he arrived it was found the license plate did not match the truck, a 2017 Toyota Tundra, which was later found to have been stolen from Anchorage. The trooper talked to three people by the car, according to the dispatch.

“AST dispatched another unit to the area but before it arrived the three individuals entered the vehicle … and let at a high rate of speed,” the dispatch states.

The vehicle took off north on the Sterling Highway toward Soldotna. Troopers laid out a spike strip south of Soldotna, which Heath, who was driving, hit but kept going. The truck eventually stopped in the road just north of the Mackey Lake Road intersection with the highway, according to the dispatch. Troopers had to stop traffic to get the driver and two passengers out of the truck and remove it from the road, which took about 45 minutes. Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Alaska State Parks and the Soldotna Police Department assisted in the chase, according to the dispatch.

Heath was arrested for multiple outstanding warrants, and the other two passengers were released on scene. Investigation is ongoing, according to the dispatch.

Heath has multiple open misdemeanor cases in Courtview from this year, the earliest in January and the most recent on Sept. 12.
