Police look for tips about slain dogs

Alaska State Troopers, community members and the Peninsula Crime Stoppers are looking for tips after a family dog was fatally shot in the Kalifornsky Beach Road area last week.

The owners found Lizzie, a 14-year-old beagle, dead in their yard in the River Hills neighborhood off Ciechanski Road around 5:30 p.m. Dec. 5 from an apparent small-caliber gunshot wound. She was wearing a collar for an electric fence system that kept her contained in the yard.

It’s the second such crime in a month in the central peninsula area. Kenai Police are still looking for leads on the shooting of Juno, a boxer mixed-breed female dog, who was shot with a high-powered pellet gun Nov. 5 near Highland Pride Mobile Home Park. The dog later died from the wound.

Crime Stoppers is offering a reward for information that leads to the arrest in either case. Anonymous tips can be phoned in at 907-283-TIPS, submitted via mobile app P3 or on the Peninsula Crime Stoppers website.
