Summer sun, fun arrive on the Kenai

Between the yard sales, lemonade stands, festivals, fairs and markets on Saturday, it was hard not to find something to do.

Residents of the central Kenai Peninsula headed outside the enjoy the June sunshine and warm temperatures Saturday with a variety of activities, from the Kenai River Festival in Soldotna to the Kenai Municipal Airport’s annual Air Fair. On various curbs and lawns, kids tried their hands at selling lemonade for business experience as part of the area’s annual Lemonade Day, and runners lined the shoulder of Redoubt Avenue in Soldotna as part of the Kenai Watershed Forum’s annual Run for the River.

Though a chilly fog hovered over Kenai around midmorning, by early afternoon it had cleared into a sunny blue sky. The National Weather Service is predicting the sun to stick around in the central Kenai Peninsula area from Sunday through Wednesday, with temperatures in the upper 50s to mid-60s.
