Motorcyclist improving after Friday collision

Posted: July 22, 2013 - 5:32pm

The injured motorcyclist involved a Friday accident in Kenai has “improved considerably” Kenai Police Sgt. Scott McBride said.

The 63-year-old man is being treated at Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage.

Officials have not released his name at of 5 p.m. Monday.

McBride said the biker was driving a Harley-Davidson motorcycle westbound on the Kenai Spur Highway and nearing the Safeway entrance by Carl’s Jr. when he was struck. The other driver involved in the accident, whose name has not been released, was a 30-year-old woman in a Ford Escape.

The driver of the Escape tried to turn left from the Safeway entrance into the center lane to then merge with Soldotna-bound traffic. She did not see the motorcyclist who tried to pull into the center lane to avoid being hit. The two collided in the center lane, McBride said.

The driver of the Escape was not injured.

The accident happened at about 7:30 p.m., reducing the highway to two traffic lanes — one in each direction — until about 10:30 p.m. Friday.

Alaska State Troopers Bureau of Highway Patrol assisted with the investigation, which is ongoing.

McBride said no citations had been given in relation to the incident as of Monday afternoon.
