It's been a raucous week in national politics as rhetoric at the Republican National Convention reached a new level of vitriol. And we expect to hear more next week, as the Democratic Party will have its opportunity to offer a rebuttal.

We have received numerous calls from people who have found recipes on the internet for pressure canning summer squash, such as zucchini and want to know if this product is safe. Pressure canning summer squash is no longer recommended.

We don't eat out very much, partly because of my wife's delicate stomach and partly because of my delicate wallet. When the choice comes down to lifesaving doctors and a good meal, I am saddened that food comes in second place.

Three people were rescued unhurt from the Kenai River after their boat took on water Friday. The Kenai Police Department, Kenai Fire Department and the U.S. Coast Guard responded to a call around 3:30 p.m.

The general burn permit suspension has been lifted on the Kenai Peninsula. The Alaska Division of Forestry Kenai-Kodiak office lifted the suspension effective noon Friday, according to a notice from the Alaska Department of Natural Resources.

JUNEAU - The Alaska Supreme Court on Friday struck down a state law requiring parental notification of a minor seeking an abortion. The court found the law, approved by voters in 2010, violates the state Constitution and cannot be enforced.
