Senators deserve praise

I think two of our elected officials deserve a little praise. Senators Murkowski and Begich have been strong supporters of job growth and the American energy industry.

Their support for American businesses has been reassuring and critical in these tough economic times. Like most families and small business owners, Murkowski and Begich realize that if the American economy is going to recover, we need new jobs and affordable energy.

Despite calls from President Obama and his staunchest allies in Congress to raise taxes on American energy producers, Senators Murkowski and Begich are committed to the belief that energy should remain accessible for ordinary Americans.

They understand that the American oil and gas industry has been a bright spot in an otherwise sluggish economy, and that the sector is creating jobs America desperately needs. Here in Alaska the American energy industry is a vital part of our economy. The industry supports over 46,000 jobs in our state and contributes billions of dollars to our local economy.
