What is Alaska coming to?

Posted: August 22, 2013 - 2:14pm  |  Updated: August 23, 2013 - 9:05am

Welcome to the great state of Alaska, where the underwriters of the craziness we call our lawmaking system are providing an all you can feed the masses buffet of moldy bologna sandwiches. Every time I turn around there is a new awful plan/bill in the works that leaves things in worse condition for my kids and yours. By the time my 5-year-old is 40 what will be great that’s left here? The only predators left will be the 2 legged ones, the streams and rivers will flow at the behest of the corporate interests — that’s it at the headwaters — and now there will be a whole new chance for some creature from the black lagoon to crawl out of a new Nikiski industrial waste site that will most probably only possibly flow in a southwesterlyish direction (if it breaches the pit liner in under 5-10 years; after that no responsible party will be watching it (“Erin Brockovich”?)). Not to mention continual pressure from outside interests to bring flourishing watersheds to ruin in more than a couple places around the state. We must find a way to stop feeding ourselves and those close to us this excessive feast of processed junk both physically and mentally and work to rejuvenate this blessed place that we call home. Ideas?

The vote

It matters not whether you vote.It does matter that you vote wisely.I think. So! Long as the VOTERS are re electing the people that sit in Juneau to represent them. You can only expect the status quo. Expecting any change by voting for the same people, and mindset Who made the mess. Now that is insanity, and a waste of a vote that could have been wisely cast.

I fully agree with you

I fully agree with you raoulduke, tho who thinks whose vote for who is a waste of a vote is a widely varied topic. I never vote for the ones who are already in office. I consistently vote Nader for prez which is considered by many to be a waste. My voting for him and similar underdogs at a state/local levels at times feels a futile gesture. It makes one hope for something more. As I commented on Norm Olson's letter a few minutes ago, playing by the rules of those who make the rules is a battle we are not winning. The makers of the rules have endless ways to distract us and give us the run around so we can't get around their rules. Frustrating for a pacifist from kasilof.
