Welcome to the great state of Alaska, where the underwriters of the craziness we call our lawmaking system are providing an all you can feed the masses buffet of moldy bologna sandwiches. Every time I turn around there is a new awful plan/bill in the works that leaves things in worse condition for my kids and yours. By the time my 5-year-old is 40 what will be great that’s left here? The only predators left will be the 2 legged ones, the streams and rivers will flow at the behest of the corporate interests — that’s it at the headwaters — and now there will be a whole new chance for some creature from the black lagoon to crawl out of a new Nikiski industrial waste site that will most probably only possibly flow in a southwesterlyish direction (if it breaches the pit liner in under 5-10 years; after that no responsible party will be watching it (“Erin Brockovich”?)). Not to mention continual pressure from outside interests to bring flourishing watersheds to ruin in more than a couple places around the state. We must find a way to stop feeding ourselves and those close to us this excessive feast of processed junk both physically and mentally and work to rejuvenate this blessed place that we call home. Ideas?
