Cal Thomas: Our arrogant president

Posted: June 30, 2014 - 4:14pm

President Obama appears to have forgotten — or ignored — why we have elections. One reason is to stop, or slow down, an agenda the public doesn’t like.

When polls began reflecting buyer’s remorse about Mr. Obama in 2010, voters elected a Republican majority in the House of Representatives and might well have done the same in the Senate in 2012 were it not for some weak GOP candidates, especially in Nevada and Delaware.

President Obama acts as if elections other than his own don’t matter. His attitude seems to be, “I have the power and the rest of government be damned.” In another speech (does he talk in his sleep?) last week in Minneapolis, the president said of House Republicans, “They don’t do anything except block me and call me names.” Actually, Republicans have passed scores of bills, virtually all of which have died in the Senate, because Majority Leader Harry Reid refuses to bring them up for a vote, much less debate. It is Reid who is the real obstructionist.

Speaker John Boehner is threatening to file a lawsuit against the president for using his executive powers to bypass Congress. Critics, notably Neil Cavuto of Fox News, have accused the Republicans of engaging in a “stunt” that has no chance of succeeding.

Cavuto may be right, but not all stunts, if that’s what this is, are without merit. While the courts might rule that Boehner lacks legal standing to sue the president, the lawsuit could serve as a teachable moment for the public, which polls show increasingly distrusts this president on matters both foreign and domestic.

Here’s what a real stunt looks like. While in Minneapolis, President Obama met with two people he said had written him about their economic struggles. He ate a hamburger with a woman who said she is having difficulty paying her bills. Maybe the president picked up the check, helping her out with one meal. Other than that, how did he improve the woman’s circumstances? Cutting taxes, lowering government spending and reducing the size of the federal bureaucracy would improve the economy so that the struggling woman — and many like her — might be able to find a better job with higher pay, or secure a raise in the job she already has.

This president believes in his policies even when they are not working.

As the late Pete Seeger sang about Lyndon Johnson and the Vietnam War, so it might also be said of President Obama and the record of his administration: “We were knee deep in the Big Muddy, and the big fool said to push on.”

The list of policy failures, corruption and probable misdeeds is long and growing longer. The website White House Dossier lists two dozen scandals linked to the Obama administration and while all might not rise to the level we have come to associate with legitimate political malfeasance, the list is an indictment of a president who sold himself as being nobler than ordinary politicians, not to mention most Americans. He was seen and sees himself as the great deliverer, perched far above the rest of us. Instead, his incompetence has been exposed, leading to the conclusion among growing numbers of us that he is in over his head and harming the country in ways that could last for generations.

The list of Obama’s broken promises is longer than his failures. Some have been compiled on Politifact.com.

The definitions of “arrogance” from dictionary.com accurately describe the president’s attitude: “1. Offensive display of superiority or self-importance; overbearing pride. 2. Having or showing an exaggerated opinion of one’s own importance, merit, ability, etc; conceited...”

Synonyms for arrogance also apply: “presumptuous, haughty, imperious, brazen, proud.”

If this fall’s election gives Republicans a Senate majority, as seems likely, will the president’s arrogant behavior change? Not likely. Humility is not a trait found in Saul Alinsky’s “Rules for Radicals.”

The Clarion brings you your daily dose of right wing mania.

Cal Thomas is a partisan political hack.

Read closely and you can see even he doesn't believe in his own lies, his own manic hype and exaggeration.

He lists 'websites' where 'scandal' is documented and even admits it's all trumped up baloney. But still, ...freedom, or some such rallying cry for urging you to partake in the willful dementia necessary to promote this kind of winger propaganda.

The publisher should be ashamed he provides space for Cal Thomas, a disgraced pundit who's been consistently wrong about everything for years on end. Even when he's just calling it in, the winger crowd waits at his knee and worships the rot that issues forth.

Begich Losing Grip - Obama Floundering

Now that the liberal media can no longer lie it's way out of Obama's mistakes, others liberals like Begich will be exposed.

Obamacare is a disaster, many of those who enrolled were illegals, the cost of health care is increasing, you DO NOT get to keep your doctor, and you're paying higher taxes.

Kick out Begich first and do not vote for any more Dems like Obama.

I find the majority of the posts of this person to be well thought out and also informative! But to make such a blanket statement to the failures of Obama and his pet program is irresponsible! Most of these people wouldn't know the truth if it had alligator teeth and bit them in the ass! The news has been full of people no longer being able to see their long time Doctor's and the cost of insurance rising ever higher. Most people are avoid Obamacare like it carried the plague. They had counted on younger people signing up who would pay but not need as many services to make it profitable but they are not falling for it so it is mainly welfare people who now use it which only transfers the payments out of one pot to put them into another government one.

The only solution available to us is to support and vote for a true 3rd party candidate since they would be in the middle and could have real clout in Congress when both sides come to get their votes.

You would, because you're just as misinformed.

None of what you're claiming is backed up with any evidence.

None of it.

The actual evidence disproves every claim you make.

Where do you come up with that stuff?

Oh, yeah, Fox News and the right wing echo chamber.

Delusional behavior can be cured when it's been a willful and conscious decision to become delusional. Just wean yourself from the propaganda.

Cheapersmokes, honestly you can't tell me you think Krazy 8's comments are "well thought out and informative." Don't lower yourself to his standards. I've seen you post much brighter observations. KK88 provides as with an endless amount of unsubstantiated, mindless drivel and I'm quite sure he is mentally unbalanced. Seriously, sir your better than that.

I can recall him making some very informative, competent and thought out comments on fishing issues I seem to recall the topic was.

But most of these posters have blinders on and only listen to their favorite providers and the drivel they are being spoon feed. Our country is going downhill so fast I actually only give it about a dozen more years until we no longer recognize it. I also feel that Reagan was the only decent President we have had recently since he ended the cold war with having to fire a single bullet but he lacked serious financial management skills. Obama will go down as the absolute worst President we have ever had also.

If I were President I would immediately:

1) Cancel all Congressional pension payments and plans and put them under Social Security just like the majority of people.
2) Cancel all payments to other countries except to those to Israel, Australia, and our other long time friends. We have many people here who could use our help.
3) Allow only those into the country who have a sponsor who will certify that they have a place to live and a job so they will never be a burden on the taxpaying citizens of this country.
4) Allow in goods from other countries based on a simple scale of dollar for dollar of those they purchase from us.
5) Make all Cable TV companies set up a program to allow their customers to select only the channels they want and charge them a fee based on their selections.
6) Cancel all infomercials unless they are located on their own channel. Why should we pay for a channel in which they get paid to put up paid programming!
7) Forbid all lawyers from advertising their services on TV.
8) Cut all branches of the Federal Government budgets 20%
9) Close up the Department of Education since they don't teach a single person and also the Department of Human Services and make the churches take over supporting those in their communities who are in serious need since they know them and can better judge just who is worthy of payments.
10) Cancell all prevailing wage contracts and programs and also ensure that all construction contracts are open to non union companies.
11) Allow the citizens to provide input on their thoughts on what needs to do done and actually listen and consider their feedback.
12) Force local government units to cancel all pension plans for future hires unless they fund it themselves.
13) Make all laws have a funding mechanism included and only address items pertaining directly to it. Now more 50 pages of requests from a Congressman just to bring money home to ensure their reelection!

What are your thoughts?

President or flat out Coo, Coo, Coup?

With a platform for the whacky policies you want to institute, you would need one heck of a band of crazies to toss out our existing courts, congress and reason.

Don't think very many people will join the CheapSmoke parade to dictatorship.

Happy 4th of July, where we celebrate not having tyranny.

Coo, coo ca choo.......

Tell me!

Are you happy with the status and direction our country is on? How is the "Hope and Change" thing working out for you after 6 years. Can you name even one member of Congress that you're proud and extremely satisfied with and why?

Proud,and Satisfied ?

I can not be proud of any member of Congress. That had signed a PLEDGE to a private citizen to "SHUT DOWN THE COUNTRY". Would that action not constitute TREASON? The pledge signers also took their oath of office.Which meant they took oaths to 2 different entities.Would this not be considered PERJURY? Now!Just what political party affiliation were these signers?
"Hope, and Change" Would have been a great deal easier without the the hindrance caused at every turn by the "PLEDGE SIGNERS". Thank You "HYPOCRITES".

Proud and Satisfied!

Duke, I am also not happy to see Congress members sign those stupid pledges to not raise taxes! But there is no way I could ever consider voting for a member of the Democratic Party since they still have the crazy Nancy Pelosi as their Minority Leader. Obama is all smooth talk to those who cannot think for themselves and actually thought they would get all of their bills paid and an increase in drug money!

Without our efforts in the wars do you think we would not of had any more buildings being destroyed? I am not talking about a Muslim soldier taking his weapon into the office and shooting it up but major acts of terrorism.
