A great big ‘Family Fun’ thank you

The great weather brought well over a thousand people out to the North Peninsula Recreation Service Area facilities for the annual Nikiski “Family Fun in the Midnight Sun” event on Saturday June 18th.

Each year it never ceases to amaze me how much the community and organizations step up to make this a successful celebration. There were many great family prizes, as well as bikes and helmets given away throughout the day. Many children left with smiles, painted faces, funky hair-dos and cotton candy-filled bellies. Mission accomplished!

This event truly couldn’t be as successful without all of the wonderful sponsors that stepped up to contribute. I would like to extend a “thank you” to the following sponsors:

XTO Energy, BP, Tesoro, Weaver Brothers, Offshore Systems Kenai (OSK), Alaska SeaLife Center, Kenai Golf Course, Metal Magic, Representative Mike Chenault , Senator Tom Wagoner, Diamond M Ranch Resort, Sharon Burdick, Kenai Veterinarian Hospital, Salamatof Native Association, Anderson Enterprises, Arby’s, Roy Wells/Waddell & Reed, Bishop Lake Studios, Kenai Neon Sign, Peninsula Moose Lodge, Dukowitz Machine, Peninsula Ear, Nose & Throat Clinic, Inc., Brown Agency, Marathon Oil Company, L&J Enterprises, AA Dan’s Construction, Sundog Serigraphics, Peninsula Accounting Services, Alaska USA Federal Credit Union, Team Industrial Services, Kachemak Electric, Homer Electric Association, Conoco Phillips, Geneva Woods Pharmacy and Audrey Johnson/Nikiski Post Office.

The NPRSA Recreation Staff worked hard to make all the age appropriate games fun and successful! Great job Tammy, Jackie, Sari, Georgie, Savannah, Kinsey, Jeff, Bradi, Caitlin, Elizabeth, and Angie, you guys are awesome. And thanks to Joe, Ed, Matt and Justin for the setup, take down and cleanup.

For all of you who participated in the Family Fun Runs, we certainly thank you for your support and hope you enjoyed the races. All proceeds will support the educational programs at the Nikiski North Star Elementary School.

A special thanks to the Nikiski Fire Fighters’ Association, Trent Burnett, Bryan Crisp and the rest of the crew at the Nikiski Fire Department. You guys are great, and it’s a pleasure working with you! And of course, a big thanks to Teri and Steve Carter and Chief Baisden for providing the community with the delicious free watermelon all day long!

Thank you all for contributing to such a great traditional community celebration!
