Hooked on Fishing appreciates community support

On Saturday, June 11, at the Kenai River Festival, we had the pleasure of giving 175 fishing rods and reels to Soldotna and Kenai area boys and girls. Now in its tenth year, the Hooked on Fishing program is sponsored by the Kenai River Sportfishing Association. 

Through the efforts of volunteers like Dennis Gease, Ken Simpson, Dan Devereux, Larry and Sheryl Miller, Susan Campbell, Ron Rainey and Betty Lowery, we were able to gather donated rods and reels, mostly new and some refurbished, and present them to children between the ages of 6 to 16.

I would like to give special thanks to Debbie and Scott of Trustworthy Hardware and Fishing. They have been supporting us in many ways for the past ten years and continue to assist us in keeping this great program going. Kudos also goes to Jocelyn O’Connor and Anna Fisher at the Kenai Watershed Forum for their great coordination of the Kenai River Festival. 

The generosity of members of our communities with donations of rods, reels, and money has been so successful that I hope to be able to make even more kids happy with fishing gear in our 2012 program. If you have rods and reels or would like to contribute to the Hooked on Fishing program, please contact the KRSA office in Soldotna.
