On October 4 we will vote on two propositions concerning raising sales taxes. I urge you to vote no on both. As a result of our current economic situation more and more of our citizens are unemployed and/or living in poverty. This is not the time to force those in need who are struggling to get by to pay more sales taxes. Sales taxes are regressive in that the poor pay a larger proportion of their income in sales taxes than do the wealthy. So let’s not put an additional burden on them.
