Setting the record straight

Posted: October 10, 2011 - 12:38pm

Campaign rhetoric can become heated, but words matter, and half-truths and lies are wrong -- even in politics. When you hear the smears aimed at Mike Navarre please help to set the record straight.

First: He cares about all sides of our fishing industry and proved it during his years in the legislature. Second: He does NOT want to spend your PFD. As a legislator he voted to put millions into the fund over the years he served you in Juneau. Third: Most of his campaign contributions have come from the Peninsula (check the APOC report). Fourth: He is not a tax and spend politician. He is generous with his own money, but very, very careful with public funds (take a look at the budgets he constructed).

We should be proud to have a local kid grow up to be a successful businessman and community leader who chooses to stay on the Peninsula. Mike's public service record is unblemished. As our legislator and as Borough Mayor he worked hard, was always honest, and he listened and made informed decisions.

On Oct. 25 we will choose the next Mayor of the Kenai Peninsula Borough. It is a difficult job that requires the kinds of skills that Mike has demonstrated over the years. For dozens of reasons I will cast my vote for Navarre, and meanwhile when I hear a "smear" I will respond and set the record straight.

I was considering voting for Mike, but now I see the liberal queen Ms. Judy Salo endorses Mike, I better rethink my vote.

So, back to the drawing board. Thank you for your comment Ms Salo, I think I need to do some more research and reconsider based on your endorsement!

Its in the perception Judy!

What you are calling as smears are in reality someone's viewpoint and you can say whatever you want, get in their face and shout at them but you will only solidify their opinion.

Mike just might be an honest and loyal public servant but I think the waste majority of the voters in this nation are sick and tired of the same ole, same ole and they will demand and vote for change. So make sure you bring plenty of facial tissues to the victory party on election night!

Was this article a PAID political ad or did the paper print it for FREE.

"are someone's viewpoint..."

Viewpoints that are solidly DISPROVEN with FACTS. Now I know folks like cheap don't like those pesky facts getting in the way of their "viewpoints", but you cannot argue the facts. The FACT that Fred has admitted that he is illiterate ALONE should scare anyone even considering him as a viable candidate, let alone his unrealistic ideas of how to change the tax structure (stop receiving funding from the state for schools and roads as there are "too many strings attached", as well as "capping assessments" which is against state law) which, if implemented, would result in either a complete collapse of schools and roads, or a SIGNIFICANT increase in taxes, or BOTH. Sorry Freddy, you can't have it both ways.

Don't Retread

A vote for Navarre is a vote for business as usual, crony capitalism and a good old boy system. We need new ideas, frugal government and integrity. Navarre had his time. Why would we go that route again? Dont retread, vote for Fred!

ManInBlack is confused...

I wonder just what motivates the ManInBlack, as his statements are baseless and are exactly the type of smear that Judy Salo claims to be against.

If you want to know the truth just ask Fred. I saw him read from his notes TODAY and he also clearly stated that he supported state funding for roads, although he did question the effectiveness of how the funds were actually applied.

If you want to smear Fred, you shouldn't make such bizarre claims that are unsupported by the facts. Your credibility is zero for anyone who looks for the facts.

From the front page on Fred's website here's a direct quote: "Economic development can only occur if we provide a stable and reasonable tax structure, an educated workforce and a cooperative, supportive government." That statement doesn't support ManInBlack's foolish claim that we should "stop receiving funding from the state for schools". His weak attempt of a smear tactic is not supported by the facts. Go to the page at: and see for yourself.

From his page at Fred states: "Roads are the single borough service that is used by us all. I will ensure that borough roads are well maintained. This will be a priority."

ManInBlack's credibility is ZERO. Go to Fred's website and see for yourself. Fred will be at the Challenger Learning Center, this Thursday the 13th from 6:30pm to 8:30pm and will be available for questions, face to face, and is not hiding behind false words posted anonymously on a blog.

Fred has a proven track record of putting people before politics. If you want a mayor who supports the will of the people, a person who fought for YOUR grocery tax exemption, for Borough term limits and helped to stop the Borough's funding of Cornell's private prison, then vote for Fred on October 25th. Fred brings positive change, not political rhetoric.

Paid Advertisement?

Another big time liberal supporting Mike Navarre. Will wonders never cease?

Navarre supports commercial fishing at the expense of sports fishers.

He supports Unions at the expense of average taxpayers.

He hates energy company employees.

Judy Salo's liberal credentials are well known.

spot on

Judy Salo is spot on. Navarre is our only clear choice for mayor. Fred is maxed out just spouting off on sound off every am.

Stop the Lies

Mike Navarre is as fiscally conservative as Barack Obama. All of Navarre's supporters are big shot Union types. I've lived here too long to tolerate a re-write of history.
