Setting the record straight

Campaign rhetoric can become heated, but words matter, and half-truths and lies are wrong -- even in politics. When you hear the smears aimed at Mike Navarre please help to set the record straight.

First: He cares about all sides of our fishing industry and proved it during his years in the legislature. Second: He does NOT want to spend your PFD. As a legislator he voted to put millions into the fund over the years he served you in Juneau. Third: Most of his campaign contributions have come from the Peninsula (check the APOC report). Fourth: He is not a tax and spend politician. He is generous with his own money, but very, very careful with public funds (take a look at the budgets he constructed).

We should be proud to have a local kid grow up to be a successful businessman and community leader who chooses to stay on the Peninsula. Mike's public service record is unblemished. As our legislator and as Borough Mayor he worked hard, was always honest, and he listened and made informed decisions.

On Oct. 25 we will choose the next Mayor of the Kenai Peninsula Borough. It is a difficult job that requires the kinds of skills that Mike has demonstrated over the years. For dozens of reasons I will cast my vote for Navarre, and meanwhile when I hear a "smear" I will respond and set the record straight.
