With hockey officially starting it is time to put an end to another successful football season for the Kenai Kardinals. The players, coaches, parents of the players, and the administration at Kenai Central High School would like to take this opportunity to thank the following groups and individuals for their help in making this past season of Kenai football very rewarding and enjoyable for the kids involved.
For starters, we would like to thank Arbys and the Navarre family for their constant support. As usual they provided the kids many opportunities to earn money this past spring and have always been there to help us when we are in a pinch. In addition, they provided the kids and coaches with a free dinner in Anchorage the night before the state championship game.
Other people that deserve a big thank you are as follows: Lynn Carlson and Christine Babcock for giving preseason physicals to the players and donating the proceeds back to the program; Anchorage Cold Storage for donating countless items and time to the cause; Kelly and Laurie Bookey for the feeding the varsity football team dinner; Tim Sandahl and Fred Thompson for the numerous hours they put into filming and making scout videos for the kids; Jim Montgomery for the countless hours of time that he volunteered; Rick Gray & JD Pratt for their time spend painting the game field; Country Foods and 3 Bears for their donations to support the hamburgers sales at all home football games; Ron's Rent-It Center for donating the use of a lift for putting up signs on the football field; Kristi Kirsch for donating supplies to decorate for the homecoming game; the City of Kenai, Kenai Police Department and Kenai Fire Department for their help and support throughout the year with homecoming activities and providing medical personnel at all of our home football games; Mayor Pat Porter, the Kenai City Council and the City of Kenai for donating their time and resources to put on a celebratory breakfast for the kids after we won our 6th state championship; Mike Navarre and Kristie Babcock State Farm for donating money to help pay for the pep bus for the state championship game; Mag Tec for donating a heater for the state championship game; Frontier Community Services, CoCo Tan & Body, Ace Dragon, Parsons Lake Lodge, and Gail Caldwell and Redoubt Realty for their donations and help with the game program; and finally a thank you to all of the parents, business people and community members that I have failed to mention that donated their time, money and resources to the program and its fund raising endeavors. Your hard work and efforts towards the most valuable asset of our community - the young kids - does not go unnoticed. The kids do genuinely appreciate the many things that you do for them and, although I may have a biased opinion, I believe that they do a fabulous job of representing themselves, their parents, their school and their community in their many endeavors. Again, thank you all for everything you do. It is an honor for me to say that I coach and teach at Kenai Central High School not only because of the fine young people we have but because of the amazing community support we get.
