Thankful for our community

Whenever there is a need, our Community steps up to the plate. We are a Community that gives from the heart! On behalf of the Area Wide Kenai Peninsula Seniors, I would like to thank Marathon Oil's volunteers for the wonderful Thanksgiving Dinner that was provided on November 21, 2011.

I would like to thank Marathon Oil for the monetary donation that provided funding for food, door prizes, coffee cups, and flower arrangements. I would like to thank the Marathon Volunteers that were wonderful towards our seniors, hard-working and caring. They assisted the Chef with preparing the food for both congregate and home meals, assisted with service delivery for home meals to Nikiski, Sterling, Soldotna and Kenai. They served the area wide seniors who attended at the Kenai Senior Center for a congregate meal.

A total of 303 seniors were served: 180 congregate meals and 123 home meals were served to Kenai, Soldotna, Sterling, and Nikiski. Marathon Volunteers rode with the meals drivers and helped deliver home meals. The volunteers set up, and decorated the dining room. Each senior (home bound or at the congregate site) that received a Thanksgiving meal received a Marathon Fall colored mug complements of Marathon Oil. There were 25 Marathon Volunteers that participated. All seniors present at the congregate meal had chances to win door prizes. A great time was had by all.

I would like to extend a special thank you to Wade Hutchings for supporting and encouraging his staff to participate. Thank you for making it possible so Marathon employees could participate in the event.

I would also to thank Betty Veldhuis and Patty Weaver for planning, coordinating and being present the day of the event to supervise the volunteers. ALL Marathon volunteers demonstrated enthusiasm, fellowship, and appreciation to the seniors. The day was enjoyed by many area-wide seniors. It was a wonderful gift to kick-off the holiday season!

Thank you Marathon Oil for the Thanksgiving Celebration and providing a wonderful day to our seniors!
