Assembly shouldn't weigh in on CON

Please explain to me how the Borough Assembly can vote on this matter. The Borough owns part of Central Peninsula Hospital, so doesn't that mean there is a conflict of interest in this matter? Every one of the Assembly members should have excused themselves from this vote for that reason!

Central Peninsula Hospital keeps bringing in more physicians as hospital employees. These physicians take times away from other surgeons in town that use Central Peninsula operating rooms. The hospital cannot afford to build enough surgery rooms to accommodate all the physicians that work for them and private physicians that use their facilities. KAHTNU surgical center would not only give patients another option, but physicians also.

Other towns have both Hospitals and Surgical Centers and they all survive. I know that I would and have used a surgical center, when available. I know that if I had gone to Anchorage for one of my outpatient surgeries that I had done here at CPH, I would have saved $1400 from just what the fees were at the hospital. Don't forget, you have more than just those fees, you get a bill from the Anesthesiologist and surgeon, so every penny you can save is important to most people. Quality of care is the same no matter which facility you use.
