50 Cinderellas headed to prom

"Just around the corner in every woman's mind-is a lovely dress, a wonderful suit, or entire costume which will make an enchanting new creature for her." These words by fashion editor Wilhela Cushman flashed into my mind this past week. I witnessed ladies from area schools beam with delight when they found their perfect prom dress.

At Soldotna High School, we hosted Cinderella's Closet. This is a program where we collect gently used prom dresses, shoes, and accessories for local high school students in need.

This year, we provided about 50 women with items. These young ladies were from SoHi, Kenai, Skyview, Nikiski, Ninilchik, Kenai Alternative, and Hope Community Resources. Since this program was started three years ago, we have now reached a total of about 250 ladies that have been provided items for their prom.

A special thank you to Kenai Performers/Curtain Call Consignment, Soldotna Student Council, Lana Syverson, and Skyview High School for collecting items to donate. To the students and staff at local high schools for passing on information. Finally, to our community for all of your generous donations. This program would not be possible without all of your help.

Items for Cinderella's Closet 2013 can be dropped off at the Soldotna High School main office. Let's help make memories for more of our area teens, simply by digging out those formal dresses!
