Kenai juries applauded

For some time I have been impressed with the maturity and responsibility of Kenai juries and their decisions.  The announcement of the conviction of the Alaska Office of Children's Services and the $2 million award to the two young victims of abuse further affirm the validity of that impression. I am glad to see the jury made what I believe are very responsible decisions.

The facts that these young women endured abuse for years, were ignored or not believed by members of OCS when they did protest and evidence was presented they were abused even more is criminal in my mind. The settlement of $2 million is cheap when considering the damage done to these young women and that they will live with this damage for the rest of their lives.

In my opinion the time is way over due for Governor Parnell to stop mouthing "choose respect" and begin developing plans and  programs to honestly protect our young people and deal with the attitudes and beliefs existent here in Alaska that contribute to our high rate of child abuse.
