Lead doesn't belong in environment

Posted: May 23, 2012 - 8:55am

Lead is a nerve poison. Ingestion can cause permanent nerve damage and even death. Thus drinking water is no longer conveyed in lead piping.

Knowing this, Senators Begich and Murkowski signed on as co-sponsors of Senate Bill 838 which removes lead shot and lead sinkers from EPA jurisdiction as toxic substances. It allows them to still be used and be introduced on a regular basis into the environment. Don't get all the pellets out of a duck you've shot and you're ingesting lead. Eat fish that have eaten a lead pellet or two and you're ingesting lead. Miss that shot at a duck and you've just put lead into the water system.

So why do something so obviously dangerous to public and wildlife health?

The NRA has decided even though steel shot has been available as a safe substitute they must have lead shot. Never mind its dangers, its proven toxicity. Their interests take precedence over the public's.

And Senators Murkowski and Begich agree as does Don Young.

Remember this when re-election time rolls around. Your children's health is not as important as the NRA's wishes. The environment, water and wildlife, are not as important as the NRA. And you are not as important to Murkowski, Begich, and Young as the NRA.

lead in the rear

The lead in their behinds is also toxic to Alaskan's as they sit around supporting everything Obama wants to shut down with his EPA all ment to squeeze people into a govt. dependant state as in One World Order, with Union members only.
I can't believe they also want to have the treaties of the Sea become Global law either, but they do. Am i wrong or is the tresty of the Sea a means to allow anyone access to the coasts of every nation for any form of commerce, as in oil drilling or fishing no matter who they are?
Make no mistake these smart people that we think are protecting us are involved up to their necks with this globalization act even if they pretend not to be, if their not then they are on the outside looking in and have no power or status with those that do rule & control what is done & what is not done.

Lead shot

Yes, lead is part of the environment. So are cyanide, tornadoes, and catastrophic flooding. Do you feel quite safe encountering those elements of nature?

As to the erroneous statement this is an effort to ban hunting, you will please re-read the letter and see wherein I state quite clearly that steel shot has been available for quite some time. Steel shot is not toxic. Lead shot is quite toxic. Lead's toxicity is why there are no lead water pipes anymore.

Of course, if you still feel so attached to lead, you can certainly reverse that last statement and have lead piping installed in your house's water lines. Afterwards, come back here a few years later and see if you can type a complete sentence for the nerve damage that will accrue.

Lead shot killing California Condors

Apparently, the Arizona Dept. of Game and Fish considers this enough of a problem, contrary to the comments some have posted here, to try and change hunters' choices from lead bullets in their state. Or perhaps the Az. F&G is anti-hunting, right, akmscott?

(We all know how darned liberal Arizona is, so probably the whole department is anti-hunting......riiiiight.)

Animals over humans

What about all the toxic actions that we humans do to our selves and others daily by killing humans adding into millions?
Who cares about humans as long as those ducks or Condors are not eating lead?
Every thing is totally upside down in this world of OURS as we worship nature more than God & try to preserve ducks while we kill mankind with laws which allow us to do so that go against Gods laws. But thats ok for us to kill humans which are created in Gods image, just don't mess with animals. What a mess.
