Support for Safety Day appreciated

Thank you to those who contributed and participated with the 2012 Soldotna Safety Day. It was located at the Soldotna High School parking lot on May 19. Many students contributed poster entries with the theme of, "Safety in and around the wheel." Eliana Gale of Cook Inlet Academy was our grand prize winner, her poster was published by the Soldotna Chamber of Commerce. Lana Chelsey and Richard Reynolds both of Skyview, were poster winners as well as Rachel Davidson of Redoubt Elementary. We really appreciate the 102 entries we received this year and I really appreciate the professional artist who judged this difficult very competition.

This annual event would not be possible without participants who volunteer their Saturday to share their safety information with the public, such as the Forestry department, Central Emergency Services, Homeland Security, the U.S. Coast Guard, The Kenai Peninsula Mobile Command Vehicle, and Soldotna Police Department, and safety organizations such as Peninsula Smoke Free, Safe Kids Coalition and Lee Shore Center. Thank you to the VFW for faithfully posting the colors, reminding us all that we live in a free country, due to those who gave all they had.

Thank you, Nita from C.O.D for making it a fun event with face painting. We all enjoyed your art work.  Thank you, Delana Duncan for your incredible singing talent and thank you, Larry VanRay for your wonderful auctioneering talent. Thank you to Conoco Phillips for the gracious donation of the barbecue, Country Foods, Save-U- More, 3 Bears and Our Best Friends who donated the hot dogs to go with the barbecue and the chips and all the fixings. Thank you to Coca Cola for your delicious beverages.  Thank you Alaska Waste for helping us keep SoHi trash free.

Thank you to The City of Soldotna and The Soldotna Chamber of Commerce for participating and encouraging the Soldotna Safety Day event without such support this event would not be able to take place.
I would like to thank the State Farm office of Mike Barth from Homer in helping this year. Mike is a new agent with State Farm and a great guy. A huge thanks goes to Mr. Doug Field of Kenai Neon Sign Company, his banners and signs make Soldotna Safety Day location highly visible. And most importantly, I thank my own State Farm office staff who give of their time and talent every year to make this event happen, without their support, ideas and hard work, Soldotna Safety Day, would only be an idea and not a "happening."
