Thanks to help making air fair fly

Posted: June 19, 2012 - 7:56am

The organizing committee for the 12th Annual Kenai Peninsula Air Fair would like to thank all those who participated and who made it an extraordinary event!

Great weather all around the peninsula contributed to another successful Kenai Peninsula Air Fair and Poker Run. Forty-six pilots, family, and friends participated in the poker run enjoying a kickoff breakfast by the EAA in the MARC hangar at the Soldotna Airport. To the financial sponsors of Beacon Occupational Health & Safety, GCI, Wince-Corthell-Bryson, Peninsula Aero Tech, and Alaska Airmen’s Association a very special thank you. Thank you to EraAlaska, Grant Aviation, Kenai Aviation, Alaska Sea-Kayakers, Alaska West Air, Burger Bus, Six Mile Rafting, Crowley, Frames & Things, Ken’s Alaskan Tackle, Major Marine Tours, Nenana Raft Adventures, New Beginnings, Sportsman’s Warehouse, Swiftwater Bill, and Wal-Mart for the outstanding prizes for the poker run. All participants expressed their appreciation.  Thank you to Jersey Subs; the military loved the sandwiches! Thank you to master chefs Rick Koch and Duane Bannock, Kenai Chamber of Commerce and the Kenai Visitors Center for working the barbeque which served over 400 people; Black Jaxx Barbeque, Joe Moore, Carol Freas, Mayors Porter and Micciche, Coach John Marquez and the members of the Kenai Central High School football team, Kenai Tower, and Kenai Flight Service Station. A great job was done by all!

This year also included several aviation-related vendors. The free flights provided to children by the Young Eagles program were very popular. Jumpin Junction and Faby Peck were also hits with the kids. Thank you to Sun Dog Seriographics who produced the 2012 t-shirt and poster design. We were proud to have these highlight our event.

A very special thanks to the military – the 249th Alaska Air National Guard, USCG Air Station Kodiak, 168th Operations Group Eielson Air Force Base, US Army Guard, US Air Force Reserve, and the great band “Alaska Brass” from the USAF Band of the Pacific. They passed on their sincere gratitude to the Main Street Hotel and Avis for donating the rooms and vehicle.

If we have been negligent in naming anyone who helped with our event, we are truly apologizing in advance.

Thank you to the people of the Peninsula for your support, without you, it wouldn’t happen!
