All user groups should share conservation burden

Posted: June 21, 2012 - 7:52am

This is an open letter to all the powers that be who manage the Kenai River. Now that the river is closed to kings and the prospects look dim, please don't let the commercial fishing proceed without some closures as well. It would make no sense to close one without closing the other. The bulk of the sockeye run shows up in the middle of July so why not let commercial start then since that is their target anyway? That would give what few kings there are, a chance to enter the river and do their thing. Everyone should share this burden equally!
