My name is Avery Kornstad. I’m 13 years old and I’m a 4th generation east side commercial setnetter that lives in Kenai year around. I’m the great-granddaughter of Joyce and Wendell Honea who founded our site in 1961. For every summer of my life I’ve looked forward to fishing for red salmon with my family. But now that we have been closed from fishing this past season, I haven’t been able to do that. All the information that I’ve received from my family is kind of confusing so I’ll keep this letter short. Anyway, I (of course) don’t think its fair that were not fishing.
But that’s not why I’m writing this letter. I’m writing this letter to give the point of view of a teenager in this situation. Here are my reasons:
No. 1 When fish and game closes us down, I miss out on earning lots of valuable money. That money would pay for my college tuition so I could maintain my goal to graduate from a good college and open up an office of optometry here in Kenai.
No. 2 If this kind of pattern of closure keeps up then my children won’t get to experience fishing in Cook Inlet like I did.
No. 3 This kind of situation not only hurts the adults, it also hurts their kids and many generations to come.

7/27/12 AVERY, You are a Brave Soul to make the time to speak up & write Your Opinion.
Ask your Fellow Family Members how many make the time to
VOTE ?
Your Family & All Set Netters can rant & rave & complain til the End of the Earth & nothing will change until They make the Time to Vote. VOTER APATHY is Our Own Worst Enemy.
Cuss & Discuss, rant, rave, scream to the havens. Nothing will Change until the Set Netters participate in Democracy & VOTE.
Our Voting District has one of the Worst Voter Turn-Out
in the entire State. The K-Beach area has the largest Population of almost 10,000 residents & a 28 % growth in population since 2000. Larger Population than any other City
on the Kenai Peninsula but that same K-Beach area has the Worst Voter Turn-Out. Many of which are Set Net Fishers.
I Wish You Well AVERY, continue to speak up for Your Family.
