Shame on you

I am not a Kenai River guide, nor am I a commercial fisherman. Just someone who enjoys fishing.

Shame on ADF&G for the decision they made about shutting down fishing for the setnetters. This is devastating for these families, which at least 86 percent of the setnetters live and work here year-round, not just in the summer. They attend our churches, schools and shop in the local businesses. They help support this community in every way.

It was hard to listen to the guy on Channel 2 news last Sunday night. He complained about how the low run of kings and how it has hurt the local area businesses this summer. Does he not realize shutting down the setnetters will not just hurt summer business, but will hurt area businesses all year round?

The summer guides still fished when the setnetters were shut down. Now they get to still bring in some income because of the high run of sockeye, then some will still fish for the silvers and even some for the trout — how sad. Then some will take their summer fun income and go back Outside, not concerned about area business in the winter.

Shame on you.
